June Whitfield was born in Streatham, South London, in 1925.
Although she is officially described simply as an 'English actress' in reality she has become the country's favourite comedienne through her many film, television, radio and theatre appearances.
Although her film work included many of the 'Carry On' films she is best remembered for her collaborations with Terry Scott in 'Happy Ever After' and 'Terry and June' - both top-rated comedy sitcoms on the BBC.
In 1992 June became a regular cast member in Jennifer Saunder's 'Absolutely Fabulous' playing Edina Monsoon's mother.
This portrait was taken in the kitchen of her Wimbledon home in the early 70s.
