As well as being a wonderful introduction to the world of theatre for children, pantomime has always been a fun and happy art form.

The highly entertaining shows are well known for bringing stars from the world of television to the stage for a few weeks over Christmas.

In 1977, two well known stars trod the boards in 'Dick Whittington' at the Ashcroft Theatre in Coydon, South London. Barbara Windsor played the hero Dick and Bill Owen portrayed the role Alderman Fitzwarren.

Barbara has been a star of stage, film and television for many years and was recently the landlady of The Queen Vic in the long-running hit sitcom 'EastEnders'.

Bill Owen was one of the original cast of 'Last of the Summer Wine' playing Compo Simmonite from 1973 until his death in 1999.
