Basil Brush was originally a glove puppet created in 1963 for an ITV television series and voiced by Ivan Owen until his death in October 2000.

Basil has also appeared in animated cartoon shorts and comic strips.

He is a mischievous character and a raconteur and best known for his catchphrase "Ha Ha Ha! Boom Boom!", used after something he finds funny. He speaks with a 'posh' accent and manner referring to himself as a 'fella'.

Basil's voice was actually modelled on that of film star Terry Thomas.

He surprisingly claims to dislike puppets.

Although originally created as a children's entertainer, it was during the 1970s that he became popular with family audiences.
